Hardware

The Applied Computing Center features 32 Dell Pentium 4 computers with 1 gigabyte or more of ram and plenty of hard disk space. Four other computers feature 850 MHz Duron processors and 256 megabytes of ram. All computers have cd or dvd drives, zip drives and floppy drives. We also have 2 iMac Intel on 2 iMac powerPC machines, each with 1 GB of ram and a 250 GB Hardrive.

Five color scanners are available for client use. In addition to this, a large document scanner is available, capable of scanning documents up to 42" x 66" in full digital color (up to 500 dpi) by appointment only. Please see the Contact Us page for our phone number or to submit a request online for an appointment.

Software

Word-processing, statistical analysis, programming, and presentation development programs are available on both the PC and Macintosh computers. See the software list for more details and/or use the Contact Us form.

If an instructor wishes to use his/her own software, the Applied Computing Center manager should be told whether it is to be run on a PC or a Macintosh. Software license documentation must be provided by the instructor. Additional helpful information would include how many students will be using the software, and for what duration of time (one semester or more). Please note that the instructor must have appropriate licenses and user information available before the software can be installed on Applied Computing Center computers.

The Applied Computing Center cannot provide personal tutoring on how to use the instructor's software. Software instruction should be incorporated in the instructor's curriculum. At the beginning of class it is helpful to survey the students on their computer literacy for usage with common software programs.

Internet

Internet access is available on all computers in the Applied Computing Center. Please become familiar with Center policies for appropriate usage of the Internet, and appropriate search topics before using a workstation.

Services

The Applied Computing Center offers special services such as professional editing of theses, dissertations, and papers for publication.  Digital video production, 3D Studio Max and Flash animation and editing consultations are offered by appointment. Media conversion and special digital graphics assistance on imaging can also be arranged. The Contact Us page contains phone numbers and other information you may use to get in touch with us for more details.
