At Brevard Engineering College
In 1961, the university moved to its current Melbourne campus and construction began on new additional buildings. In the following years, the university was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and dedicated a new two-story library. In 1966, the name of the college was changed to Florida Institute of Technology. The School of Aeronautics was created in 1967 with the intention to train pilots and aviation business executives. During the same year, Gleason Auditorium was dedicated.

George Poldomani  '73. In the fall of 1969, registration was held in the SUB. While waiting in line, Ray Work went up and down the line eyeballing every student. Not very many were asked to leave and come back, but some were. At that time, FIT had a policy that 'if you were going to be an engineer, you had to look like an engineer.' Those pulled out of the line at registration were told to "get a haircut".'
