The on-campus recruiting program
gives employers the opportunity to interview
Florida Tech students
on campus during the Fall and Spring semesters. Employers
should reserve their recruiting date at least six weeks
in advance by contacting the Career Services Office
at 321-674-8102. We will confirm your date and send
you a recruiting registration form within one week.
Please fill out the registration form and return it
as soon as possible to our office so that we can advertise
your visit to our students. We do accept reservations
up to two weeks in advance of the visit providing we
have space available but may not be able to provide
résumés in advance for pre-screening.
Types
of Interview Schedules
Pre-Select
Schedules:
We will submit résumés to employers for pre-selection
based on the major, degree, graduation date, GPA, and work authorization
status that is given to us on the recruiting registration form.
We do not have a résumé drop system where students
submit résumés for interviews schedules that they
are interested in but rather forward résumé packets
from our files of active students who have expressed an interest
in on-campus interviewing in general. We can forward résumés
by mail, fax, or by email providing the student has registered
with our office using MonsterTRAK.
Florida Tech
is a small institution so our pool of applicants, although
high in quality, is often quite small in number, particularly
if the screening criteria are specific and numerous. To increase
the pool of applicants and make the recruiting visit more productive,
we encourage employers to consider looking carefully at our academic programs to see if some of our
unique and interdisciplinary programs may be appropriate. Many
employers find that being flexible regarding major, GPA and
work authorization status can increase the pool of applicants.
The Career
Services Office will attempt to forward résumés
to you at least two weeks prior to your on-campus visit. After
reviewing the résumés, please let us know your
selections by email or fax at least five days prior to your
visit so that we can contact students to set up the interview
schedule. Employers are encouraged to contact students directly
by Email to tell them that they have been selected for an interview
and to encourage them to contact our office for an interview
time.
Combination
Schedules:
Employers who have pre-screened résumés and
find that there are still openings on their schedule may want
to consider a combination schedule. A combination schedule can
include students who have been pre-selected and students who
perhaps did not have their résumé submitted in
time for pre-selection but who meet the screening criteria and
who are interested in the employer. A combination schedule is
also an option for employers who will consider interviewing interested
and motivated students who perhaps did not meet the initial screening
criteria. The students who are not pre-selected will sign up
on a first come, first serve basis.
Open Schedules:
Open schedules allow students to sign up on a first come,
first serve basis, based on requirements such as major, degree,
graduation date, GPA, and work authorization status. We will
publicize open schedules extensively on our website, on campus
bulletin boards, and by email announcements sent to our registered
students. Students will sign up directly for open schedules in
the Career Services Office.
All interview
schedules conducted in the Career Services Office must begin
no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and end no later than 4:30 p.m. A
typical interview schedule begins at 8:30 a.m. with 30 minute
appointments; two 15 minute breaks; and one hour for lunch.
We can accommodate different schedules such as 45 minute interview
slots provided we have advance notice. Please try to stick
to the time schedule that you have selected when actually interviewing
the students. Many Florida Tech students schedule on campus
interviews around their classes and part-time jobs and may
not able to wait for a recruiter who is running late.
Information
Sessions
Many employers find that an information session held prior
to interviews can be helpful to give a more extensive overview
of the company than is feasible during a 30 minute interview
and to help students become more familiar with the organization
and the positions that they are interviewing for. The Career
Services Office can make the arrangements for the room reservation,
food, and AV equipment provided we have advance notice of the
presentation. Catering is provided the University's food services
department and employers will be billed directly by them. There
is no charge for AV equipment that is available on campus although
there may be a charge for a technician to set up equipment in
certain buildings.
Publicizing
Your Visit
The Career Services Office advertises all on campus interviews
on our website, on campus bulletin boards, through email notices
to students who are registered with our office, and by visiting
classes. Feel free to send us your own customized flyers or posters
for posting. Advertising in the campus newspaper is another option
and can be arranged by Emailing the The
Crimson directly. Links to other student organizations on
campus can be found on the Campus Life web site or you can call the Student
Activities Office at 321-674-8134 to get contact information
for various student organizations.
Getting to
know faculty members at Florida Tech is an excellent way to
publicize your organizations upcoming visit because they have
very close contact with the students. We would be happy to
set up meetings or lunch arrangements with faculty as part
of your recruiting visit. Feel free to contact faculty directly
in advance of your visit either by Email or by phone. Department
information and listings can be found either on the Academic
and Research web site or in the campus telephone
directory.
General
Information
All on campus interviews take place in the Career Services
Office, which is located in Room 210 of the Keuper Administration
Building (please see the campus map for location).
The office opens at 8:00 a.m. and employers can check in at that
time. Parking is available in the visitors lot beside the Keuper
Building and in the visitors lot in front of the Miller Building.
If no parking is available in the visitors lots, parking is allowed
in the main parking lot located directly across County Club Road.
Visitors parking passes are available from the receptionist on
the first floor of the Keuper Building.
Lunch is
usually on your own unless arrangements are made in advance
with either faculty members or with a member of the Career
Services staff. The campus is fairly close to many local restaurants
but recruiters should keep in mind that it is very difficult
to find a parking spot on campus during midday. The SUB Café,
which is located in the Denius Student Center directly across
from the Keuper Building, is very convenient for lunch.
