ProTrack Cooperative Education
ProTrack Co-op is the integration of classroom theory with applied learning in appropriate fields of business, industry, government, social services and other professions. The work situation is developed and/or approved by the educational institution as a suitable learning situation wherein students are engaged in productive and challenging work (rather than merely observing), the student receives fair compensation for the work performed and the co-op student’s progress on the job is monitored by the educational institution and is evaluated by the employer.
At Florida Tech, co-op is tied to academic semesters and students are allowed to work full or part time any semester, for a single semester, or back-to-back semesters. Students maintain their full-time student status in Fall and Spring by working full time when enrolled in co-op for academic credit. Students can continue to work for local companies (or remotely) part time (under 20 hours) throughout the school year when their schedules permit and with appropriate departmental approvals.
Co-op offers students professional growth opportunities that allow them to return to campus a better student, a more energized engineer, a sharper coder, a smarter technician, a clearer psychologist, a more sophisticated manager, a finer accountant, a better writer – whatever their field of study, their tested skills improve!
