Interview Preparation Hints

Before the Interview:

  • Prepare yourself.

  • Research the company and the job by reading books and pamphlets in the Career Resource Center.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early

  • Keep in mind that companies/agencies are interested in three basic factors:

    1. Technical ability

    2. Ability to get along and work with others

    3. Ambition

  • Dress properly

During the Interview:

  • Act calm (even though you find it difficult).

  • At every chance, let your interviewer see that your personal skills and qualification relate to the job at hand.

  • Besides selling yourself, ask questions. An interview is a mutual exchange, you should be asking yourself if this is a place you would like to work for.

After the Interview:

  • Follow through with a brief thank you note.

  • Use the opportunity to restate your qualifications and

  • add any important points you don't get a chance to bring up during the interview.

Students/Alumni are always welcome to schedule an appointment with the Career Services Director to discuss any of the above suggestions. Remember that the office also has Mock Interviews scheduled throughout the year to enhance interview techniques.
