Intern Housing Program
A short-term housing program for students from other colleges and universities coming to the Melbourne, Florida area for internships in Summer 2012.
Please note that current Florida Tech students are not eligible for the Intern Housing Program through the Conference Services Bureau and must contact Campus Services with all summer housing questions.
Are you an intern in the Melbourne, Florida area? If so, Florida Institute of Technology has everything you need right on campus: comfortable housing, great food, free access to the Internet, free local phone calls, mail services upon request and free parking!
To check availability for summer intern housing, contact the Conference Services Bureau at (321) 309-3836 or conference (at) fit (dot) edu. Interns will register online and must commit to University Terms and Conditions. A valid credit card number is required for all confirmed registrations.
About Harris Village: This modern, red brick five-story (with elevator), air conditioned, furnished, apartment-style residence hall is located on the south side of campus and was opened in August 2008. Harris Village includes such amenities as outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts, laundry facilities, vending, and a multipurpose room with ping pong and large-screen TV.
About the Apartments: The apartment includes 4 bedrooms with 1 extra-long twin bed per bedroom, 2 bathrooms (one tub/shower combo with toilet and one walk-in shower with toilet), two vanity sinks, a living/dining area and full kitchen (no cookware/dishes/utensils). Wireless internet and cable television are provided at no additional cost (must provide your own computer and/or television).
Interns are assigned a bedroom but can request an apartment roommate(s). Interns will share the living area, kitchen and bathrooms. The Conference Services Bureau reserves the right to make all housing assignments according to availability of space.
Interns may provide their own bed linens, blankets, pillows and towels, or optional linen service is available for an additional fee. Interns are to maintain clean, safe, and orderly living conditions. The registration form that is to be completed and submitted constitutes the Occupancy Agreement, and it includes University Terms and Conditions of Occupancy. A valid credit card number (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Amex only) is also required to function as a security deposit and will be charged as described on this website.
Local Area Transportation Service: Brevard County offers a local bus service called Space Coast Area Transit (www.ridescat.com). The closest SCAT bus stop is located on S. Babcock and University Blvd., within walking distance from Harris Village intern housing.
Check-in and Check-out Dates: Interns may move in as early as Saturday, May 19, 2012 and MUST vacate their apartment no later than Friday, August 3, 2012 by 6pm. No extensions of stay past Friday, August 3 at 6pm can be given! Detailed information on check-in procedures, times and locations will be included in your registration confirmation email which should be printed for your reference. Additional information will be provided via email during the summer to all intern housing guests.
Rent and Payment Information: Rent is $130 per person, per week, and this rate DOES NOT include state and local taxes ($144.30 after taxes). Additionally, there is a one-time, non-refundable service fee covering administrative costs and credit card processing - amount of fee is based upon length of stay. Full payment may be made by credit card in advance via the online registration system, or a check must be received a minimum of 7 business days prior to move-in, for all interns.
Meal Plan Options / Panther Cash: Optional Breakfast & Dinner meal plans are available for an additional cost. All meals must be eaten at the new Panther Dining "all-you-care-to-eat" cafeteria, located next to the Clemente Center for Sports and Recreation and near Harris Village. Dinner-only plans are also available.
Summer interns also have the option to add “Panther Cash” to their meal plan. Panther Cash may be used at the university's many dining venues, including Panther Dining "all-you-care-to-eat" cafeteria, SUB Café, and vending machines. Panther Cash entitles the intern to discounts off at-the-door pricing at Panther Dining. Panther Cash may be purchased at the same time as payment is made for housing & meal plan, or at any time during the summer. There is no reimbursement on funds left on the Panther Cash card and the card will become inactive at the end of summer.
Cancellation Policy: For a refund of your housing payment minus one week’s rent ($130.00) plus the non-refundable service fee, any total cancellation must be received in writing via email (conference (at) fit (dot) edu) no less than two weeks prior to planned arrival date.
Refund Policy for Date Change: Any changes to dates of your internship that would result in a later arrival or earlier departure than your originally reserved dates must be communicated in writing via email (conference (at) fit (dot) edu) by Monday, May 28, 2012. Any possible refund will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Be sure to discuss your internship and housing dates with your employer as soon as possible to avoid such situations.
Check-Out Information: A final apartment inspection walk-thru with a Conference Services Bureau staff member is mandatory before check-out. Final apartment inspection arrangements must be made at least 3 working days in advance of your departure.
Smoking: Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside of campus residential buildings.
Parking: You must register your vehicle with the Conference Services Bureau prior to move in. You will receive a parking permit that will need to be displayed in your vehicle while on campus. Parking is available in front of building. There is no additional charge for parking.
Pets: For health, sanitation, public safety and in consideration of others, pets of any sort are prohibited.Should this policy be violated, a fine of $150 will be assessed to the credit card on record, and the intern instructed to remove the pet from Florida Tech premises within 24 hours. Should the intern fail to remove the pet, the animal will be removed by the university at the intern’s expense and the intern may face an additional fine of $75 per day. Any damage, cleaning or pest control costs associated with the presence of an unauthorized pet will be billed to the intern.
