Beginning the Monday after commencement, seven faculty members returned to the classroom to participate in Florida Tech's first Faculty Summer Institute sponsored by the Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence. The institute ran one week immediately after spring finals and then one week before the start of fall classes. The faculty, who earned honorariums for their service and commitment, participated in lectures, discussions, and work activities eight hours a day in the development of their projects.

In addition to presenting their findings at the conclusion of the institute, each faculty member is scheduled to present their finding at one of the Spotlight Events for interested faculty and staff. The faculty participants have also agreed to mentor other faculty who are interested in developing similar teaching and learning skills.

Carol Shehadeh, humanities and communication & institute co-director, said, "the objective of the institute, and the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, is to create an environment that emphasizes and enhances the teacher-student relationship." Our other co-director is Wade Shaw.
