Dr. Jones' training, job experience, and research interests are in the field of computational mathematics.
Before coming to Florida Tech, he worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) on parallel solvers for partial differential equations. He was one of the developers of the hypre package, a library of fast parallel solvers.
Prior to LLNL, Dr. Jones held a post-doc position at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) at NASA Langley.

Dr. Jones' research is focused on parallel multigrid solvers for various applications, particularly coastal ocean applications. Recent Ph.D. graduate (Anjali Ram 2011) worked on multigrid solvers for the "z-meshes" used in the application as well as fast algebraic multigrid solvers. Recent M.S. graduate (Osita Onyejekwe 2012) worked on extending the robustness of the underling semicoarsening multigrid method.
Dr. Jones is PI on the grant, MRI: Acquisition of a Computational Science and Engineering Parallel Cluster, National Science Foundation, 2009-2013, which helped purchase the Blueshark cluster at Florida Tech.
