Professional Experience

After graduating with first class honors from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India Joined Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkatta, India as an Assistant Naval Architect. He was awarded one of two scholarships given by Government of India to pursue PhD in Germany. On return worked as Assistant Manager (Technical Services) at Goa Shipyard, Goa, India and was subsequently promoted to Deputy Manager (CAD/CAM). He worked in this position until 1992 before leaving for Australia to take up a new position as Lecturer (Naval Architecture) at the Australian Maritime College. At the Australian Maritime College he rose to the position of Senior Lecturer (Hydrodynamics), where he served in this capacity until December 2008. Since January 2009, he has been with FIT as Associate Professor of Ocean Engineering.
Associate Professor Sahoo has has published over 25 refereed articles on hydrodynamics of high-speed craft. At Florida Tech he teaches design of high-speed small craft , fundamentals of offshore engineering and introduction to ocean engineering. He has initiated a development of new courses such as dynamics of marine vehicles, design of marine propulsion system and structural design of marine vehicles which will be offered in fall 2009/spring 2010.

Dr. Sahoo serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Ships and Offshore Structures and The Journal of Ocean Technology, and was convenor of HIPER 2006. He was once again the convenor of HIPER 2010, which took place in Melbourne, Florida in October 2010.-
