Richard Turner Elmore Jr
School of Psychology
Dr. Rich Elmore is a graduate of Georgia Military College, The University of
Georgia and Georgia State University. He earned a B.A., M.Ed. and Ph.D. degree.
While at UGA, he was initiated into the Gamma Chapter of the of the Kappa
Alpha Order and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
Dr. Elmore joined the Graduate Faculty within the School of Psychology in 1982.
He has served in several administrative positions to include the following:
Director, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS); Program Chair,
Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology; Program Chair, M.S. in Personnel Psychology
and Director of Clinical Training, Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology Program.
Currently, he is a Member of the Clinical Psychology Faculty, Director and Principal
Investigator for The Center for Combat Veteran Resiliency and holds the academic
rank of Associate Professor of Psychology.
Dr. Elmore’s research interests are primarily in the areas of traumatology,
couples and sexuality. He teaches coursework on psychotherapy to include
Clinical Skills and Techniques, Marital and Sex Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis,
Consultation and two specialty seminars on combat-related PTSD and Eye
Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for the treatment of traumatic
memories. He supervises a beginning practicum team and the advanced couple
practicum team at The Scott Center for Psychological Services at the University.
He maintains a part-time private practice specializing in Marital and Sex Therapy.
Dr. Elmore is a Member of the Emeritus Medical Staff, Department of Psychiatry
at Holmes Regional Medical Center. He is a past President of the Brevard/Indian
River Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association.In 2004 he was recipient of the
“Outstanding Psychologist of the Year” award for his extensive clinical work and applied
research for many years with combat veterans and their families within Brevard County.
In addition, he is an elected Fellow within both the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis
and the Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
Dr. Elmore served as a Captain within the U.S. Army (1968-71). He is a graduate
of the Infantry Officer Branch Course at Ft. Benning, GA and the Officer Rotary
Wing Aviator Course at Ft. Wolters, TX and Hunter Army Airfield, GA and the
Advanced Instrument Aviator Course at Ft. Bragg, NC. He served as a Section
Commander within the Combat Assault Helicopter Company, 82nd Aviation BN,
82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. In addition, he earned a Commercial Pilot
License, both Rotary and Fixed Wing qualification, with Instrument Certification.
