Dr. Luis Daniel Otero is an Associate Professor of Engineering Systems and Director of the Transportation Systems Engineering Research (TSER) Lab at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech), Melbourne, FL. He has over eight years of professional experience as a software engineer for the defense industry, being the lead engineer of various major projects. His main research areas include software engineering and transportation systems engineering applications.

Currently, Dr. Otero is heavily involved in research to investigate ways to improve the effectiveness of bridge inspections using aerial and underwater remote-controlled vehicles equipped with image and sensor devices such as mobile LiDAR. Dr. Otero is the Principal Investigator of a current research project funded by the Florida Department of Transportation to investigate the effectiveness of using unmanned aerial vehicles during structural inspections of high mast luminaries and highway bridges.

Dr. Otero has authored over 30 publications in top academic journals and conference proceedings. He has presented research work multiple times in top academic conferences nationwide.  Dr. Otero is an IEEE Senior Member.
