Current Research
The goal of Dr. Steelman's current research program is to better understand the feedback process from all perspectives (supervisor, subordinate, co-workers) in order to design interventions which will improve this communication process. Dr. Steelman developed an instrument to measure the climate for feedback in work groups (the Feedback Environment Scale) and research conducted by her research team has demonstrated the impact of the feedback environment on numerous job attitudes, feedback seeking frequency, motivation, job performance and organizational citizenship behaviors. That is, when a supervisor sets up a culture that is supportive of feedback in general, subordinates, as well as the organization overall benefit. Her team is currently working to identify the factors associated with the development of a favorable feedback environment.Dr. Steelman is also working on a research program to better define and understand employee engagement and how employee engagement can impact business outcomes.
