Message to Parents

On behalf of the Office of Student Life, I would like to personally welcome your son or daughter to the Fraternity & Sorority Community.  Fraternities and Sororities were founded with high ideals and values.  As your child discovers the wonderful experience of being a member of a fraternal organization, please know that they not alone.  Many other students are going through the education process with them, in fact, 108 men and 31 women joined this semester.  Currently 278 men are active members of fraternities and 107 women are members of sororities.

Entering college is an exciting time in a student’s life.  The challenge and rewards of this new life can be enhanced through the fraternity or sorority experience at Florida Tech.  Fraternities and sororities are a large component of campus involvement at Florida Tech. And as a member of a fraternal group, your child will have the opportunity to strengthen as an individual and to develop leadership skills that include; leading committees, managing budgets, interacting with faculty and staff and exposure to potential careers.
Fraternities & Sororities have plenty of opportunities for involvement in activities, but we stress to our members that they are students first here at Florida Tech. We have many resources available to your child to help him/her be more successful in his/her education program.  The students are encouraged to contact the Student Life Office anytime if they have questions about their experience or how to be more successful.

As you and your student discuss his/her participation in a fraternity or a sorority, please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns. I can be reached at 321-674-8080 or at smayer@fit.edu.

Sincerely,

Sara C. Mayer
Assistant Dean for Student Activities
