Immunizations Frequently Asked Questions
What vaccines are required?
MMR
All undergraduate students born on or after 1/1/57 need to provide proof of two MMRs—measles (Rubeola), German measles (Rubella)and mumps immunization. These vaccines are recommended for graduate students, but not required.
Hepatits B/ Meningitis
The state of Florida requires every student living in a residence hall to receive immunizations for meningitis and hepatitis B or to formally decline by signing a waiver acknowledging the risks of acquiring these infections.
Tuberculosis
All students arriving from a TB endemic area will be required to have a T Spot Blood Test within the first two weeks of school to determine if you have been exposed to Tuberculosis. this test is a much more specific test than the past TB Skin test, which resulted in many false positives due to the influence of the BCG vaccine. Anyone with a positive result will be required to have a Chest X Ray.
Endemic Areas of the world includes all of the areas of the world that are not listed here: North American Region: U.S.A., Canada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Virgin Islands. European Region: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom. Western Pacific Region: American Samoa, Australia, New Zealand. A valid record by the students health care provider or other school record is required.
Titers
A blood test (titer) may also be submitted for MMR, hepatitis B proof of immunity. These vaccines are available at the student health center for a fee or the local health department. If vaccination administration is a covered service under your health insurance plan you may submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.
