These are just a few of the numerous institutions that are also members of Phi Beta Delta, an honor society for both international and domestic students, as well as distinguished university faculty, staff, and visiting scholars. The organization is dedicated to the recognition of scholarly achievement in international education. The Society, founded at California State University at Long Beach in 1986, was established as a national organization with 38 chartered chapters in 1987 and has grown to become an international society with more than 140 chapters today. The Society’s motto is “Scientia Mutua Mundi” (World’s Shared Knowledge).
The goals of Phi Beta Delta are:
- Recognize the scholarly achievement of international students and scholars, US students who have studied abroad and faculty and staff who are involved in international activities.
- Advance the development of academic-based international programming
- Provide a national and international network for faculty, staff, and students involved in international endeavors.
- Increase the visibility and importance of international education.
