Dates and Deadlines for Oxford Study Abroad

Program applications and registration fees for the summer 2012 program are due to the Study Abroad Office by December 1, 2011.  Early applications preferred.

Spaces are limited and are on a first come, first served basis for eligible students, so do not wait for the deadline to apply.                         

Mandatory meetings for all participants were held on December 6 and January 15.                     

All participants should apply for a passport no later than March 15, 2012.

Non-U.S. citizens should begin obtaining UK visas during spring semester.  Obtaining UK visas is the full responsibilty of the non- US student.  A letter will be provided by the office to assist in this effort upon the student's request.  Requirements & application can be found here:  http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/

Summer Course Registration:  February 1, 2012  (Bring signed forms including course name and number (no CRN#) to Crawford 103 on Feb 1 with your payments)

Program Payment Dates

Program fees are due on the following dates:

  • December 1: $300 non-refundable application fee 
  • February 1: $1,000* for Oxford, $1000 for Italy, $100 deposit for Paris trip (July 19-23)
  • February 16:  $65 Wicked in London (July 4).  War Horse in London.  Possible $10 balance due in April or later for Wicked.
  • March 1:  Fees for all optional events due to Crawford 103 (bike trip $10, Lunch & Punt (July 15) $5,  Bath Spa (treatment prices vary), Paris trip (approx $520), additional optional shows (TBD), Bath lunch ($40).
  • May 5: Tuition and program balance (can come from financial aid):  $6,690**  (Pay the balance of your Paws account as you usually pay Fl Tech tuition & fees.)

* This $1,000 payment is immediately wired to Jesus College, Oxford as your nonrefundable deposit.  If this payment is not made by February 1, you may be moved to the wait list, so be sure to pay on time.

** $1300 was paid in the 2 earlier installments.  More due if you are taking Calc 3 or Diff Equ.

All checks must be made payable to "Florida Tech".  Write your name, "Oxford" and last 4 of your 900# in the check memo section.  The $300 application fee payment cannot be combined into one check/money order with any other payments and must be a separate check.  Optional event/trip fees must be paid as a seperate check- all optional trips can be combined into one check.

 All program fees are non-refundable.  Fees for missed group housing, meals, trips, etc. are non-refundable/ non-exchangable. For example, college housing is included from June 30-Aug 8th morning. If you arrive later or depart sooner, there are no refunds. If you miss a group meal or field trip, you will forfeit that meal/event or any portion thereof.

Airfare

Flights with 1+ stops to London Heathrow, London Gatwick, and Birmingham International range between $900 and $1600 for summer 2012. Non-Stop flights on British Air & Virgin Atlantic from Orlando to London Gatwick were $1400-1800 as of November 15, 2011. You will be given flight information for the Program Director if you wish to join the group on a non-stop flight from Orlando to London Gatwick on British Air or Virgin Atlantic.  Flying with the group is not required.

2012 Program Itinerary:

Italy:  June 23 - 30 (arrive June 24 in Italy)  Optional program open only to Florida Tech Oxford Program participants.

Friday June 29:  Depart the US for London

Saturday, June 30:  Arrive London or Birmingham – Bus to Oxford – Check in at Jesus College- light dinner in Jesus hall.

Sunday, July 1:  Orientation to Jesus College and Oxford.  Welcome dinner at Jesus College.

July 2-5:  Classes.  Lunch in hall July 2, 3, 4, 5.  Group trip to Phantom in London on July 5 (optional, but included).  Wicked July 4 (optional $65-$75).

July 6:   Group trip to Bath (optional, but included. 8am-9pm)

July 7-8:  Free weekend  (Optional: London day trip July 7  & bike trip July 8)

July 9-13:  Classes  (Lunch in Hall July 9, 10, 11, 12).  Olympic Torch in Oxfod July 9!

July 13:  Class as usual- Move from main campus to flats

July 14:  Day trip:  Warwick Castle & Stratford Upon Avon (optional, but included)

July 15:  Free day (Optional "Lunch & Punt" in Oxford)

July 16-19:  Classes

July 16: Picnic and bocce/badminton tourney at Stephens Close

July 20-23:  Free long weekend.  Great weekend to go to Ireland, Paris, Scotland, UK beaches, Lake District, etc. (optional trip to Ireland or Paris)

July 24-27:  Classes

July 25: Dinner at The Trout

July 28-31:  Free weekend

Aug 1- 3:  Classes

Aug 4-5:  Study Days

Aug 6:  Exams.  Closing Dinner.  Official Program ends.

Aug 7:  Free day (You may fly home today/depart Oxford if you wish)

Aug 8:  Departure (early morning)

Aug 8:  Arrive US 

*Cooked breakfast in Hall July 1-13 (13 breakfasts).
