Financial Aid and Money Matter FAQs

Also, view the frequently asked questions about the Oxford Program and the Italy Travel Course.

Myth: If I use financial aid this summer for the Oxford Program I will not get fall or spring aid.
Fact: No, if you use aid money in the summer, this does not take away from any other term's loans. You will still get the same amount in the fall and spring that you usually get. Yes, you will have more to pay back when you graduate, but if you are borrowing money anyway, it may as well be for this great experience on which you cannot really place a price tag.
Myth: Financial aid won’t pay for study abroad and I cannot make payments before my aid comes in.
Fact:

Financial aid really can pay for it all. If you are eligible for aid, you can get aid this summer for the entire amount plus spending money. You can even get the aid to cover your flight costs and additional expenses. This program is just like if you were taking the courses at Florida Tech in Melbourne in the summer during summer school. You will get full credit and grades for all six credit hours. The aid is Stafford Loans and Key Alternative Loans. The financial aid office knows the full program cost and they can tell you the amount they will allow you to borrow, but it is about $10,000 even though the actual cost is less then $8000 including airfare. The additional money helps to pay for food and personal expenses.

If you use financial aid for the program, the only payments you will actually have to make yourself are the February 3 $1,000 payment and the $200 application fee. Your loans will later reimburse you for these payments (in May).  In May any fees due to the program including all program costs and tuition will go into your student account and then into the Oxford Program account. A check for the residual amount will be mailed to you in the summer, so you will have spending money before you leave. The only other payment you need to make is any group airfare because the airlines will not wait until May for your money.

All fees are on the Web site in the cost pages, but the total is:

Oxford: five weeks, six credits $6,848 (includes tuition, room and some board, bus passes, field trips,& insurance, but excludes air)
