The International Society for Reef Studies (ISRS) was founded in 1980 and membership has increased rapidly in recent years. As stated in its constitution, the principal objective of the Society is to promote for the benefit of the public, the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and understanding of coral reefs, both living and fossil. To achieve its objectives the Society holds annual meetings and co-sponsors other gatherings, prints and distributes the journal Coral Reefs and the newsletter Reef Encounter, and raises funds and receives contributions by way of subscriptions and donations.

Name:

The name of the association shall be the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR REEF STUDIES (hereinafter referred to as the Society).

i) Promoting the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and understanding of coral reefs, both living and fossil;

ii) Holding and sponsoring meetings, symposia, conferences, or other gatherings to disseminate this scientific knowledge and understanding of coral reefs;

iii) Printing and publication of any papers, treatises, or communications relating to coral reefs and to the business of the Society;

iv) Raising contributions from the members of the Society and other persons for carrying out the objectives of the Society as specified above; and otherwise furthering the objectives of the Society in a manner lawful for a
not-for-profit organization.
