International Student and Scholar Services

Health Insurance

As there is no socialized or national system of health care in the United States and medical treatment is expensive. ALL international students are required to maintain full health insurance coverage throughout their course of study. University health insurance is automatically billed to your student account each semester as a part of your tuition and fees, meaning you will be covered through Florida Tech’s student health insurance plan. Details of the plan may be downloaded from: http://auxservices.fit.edu/forms/files/FA-219StuMed.pdf

Some international students are officially sponsored by their home government or an agency which guarantees their health insurance fees as part of their contract with Florida Tech. Students in this category may be eligible to receive a WAIVER of the Florida Tech health insurance fee.

Requesting a Waiver

A waiver of the Florida Tech health insurance fee may be possible only when very strict requirements have been met. If you carry insurance from your home country (or other sponsor) that covers you while you are in the United States, you may request a waiver, which must be submitted to ISSS together with proof of your own health insurance.

Note: If your dependent(s) enroll at Florida Tech, they will be charged for their own university health insurance, unless they request a waiver by the required deadline. The PDF waiver can be dowloaded from: general waiver form

It should be noted that the deadline for processing health insurance waivers is the end of the second week of classs each semester. There are no exceptions.

Dependent Coverage

All international students who are married or single parents with one or more children living with them may purchase health insurance for their dependents by completing the appropriate form in the Campus Services Office and paying for the additional insurance at the Comptroller’s office.

Vaccinations

Preventing many diseases is best accomplished with vaccinations. Find further information at http://auxservices.fit.edu/forms/files/vaccine.pdf

Where Do I Go For Treatment?

Students should go to the Holtzer Student Health Center on campus (http://auxservices.fit.edu/healthcenter/main.html) which maintains services designed to meet the primary health care needs of all Florida Tech students.

Please check with ISSS if you have any further questions regarding health insurance requirements.
