Looking back I realized how much of a learning this course really was. Aside from the tons of academic things I picked up, I
benefited from being in an eclectic group of people.
Wow, what a neat experience this is!
The week was incredibly short, but it was the best Spring Break I've ever had. I hope a trip like this is offered next
year, because I will definitely go (money permitting.) Thank you Dr. Jones and Professor Ruane for all the hard work you put into this trip. It was amazing.
I know that in my daily journals I said, "this was cool" and "that was awesome" many, many times. I said that becuase it
was true of almost all the places that I went.
Beginning with eight weekly lectures, this
course introduces students
to the history and culture of London from antiquity through World War II.
Taught by Dr. Lars Jones, Ph.D. and Professor Mattew Ruane, class lectures cover the history of technology, social history,
literature, as well as architecture and the arts in England.
During Spring Break, students attend lectures and discussions in
some of the
world's greatest museums and historical sites: Westminster Abbey, the
British Museum, the Tower of London, the National Gallery, Hampton Court
Palace, the Museum of Science & Technology, and the Imperial War
Museum! This gives students a chance to explore first hand the
world detailed in their primary source materials discussed before the
trip.
Students also explore the varied cuisines the city of London has
to offer and take in the London Eye, the Thames River by boat, the haunts
of Jack-the-Ripper--plus two top London stage shows.
