MELBOURNE, FLA. — Cheryl Skibski, a Florida Tech junior majoring in ocean engineering, has earned a $2,000 scholarship from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME).
A resident of Tolland, Mass., and on the Dean’s List, Skibski is president of the student SNAME organization on campus and is working on a minor in computational mathematics. She intends to complete a master’s degree in ocean engineering.
Skibski was chosen for the SNAME scholarship for her strong work ethic and willingness to volunteer. She also conducts research at Florida Tech and maintains a Naval Architecture/Propulsion Engineering internship at Sea Ray Boats, PD&E, in Merritt Island, Fla.
The Department of Marine and Environmental Systems integrates the expertise and skills of scientists, engineers, and resource managers. DMES offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in oceanography, environmental science, ocean engineering and meteorology. Additionally, the department offers a master’s degree in earth remote sensing.
The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is an internationally recognized nonprofit, technical, professional society of individual members serving the maritime and offshore industries and their suppliers. SNAME is dedicated to advancing the art, science and practice of naval architecture, shipbuilding and marine engineering.
