Trends in Cyber Threats: Who, What, How?
MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Harris Institute for Assured Information at Florida Institute of Technology and the Space Coast Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) present a monthly lecture series on security trends and topics. This month’s meeting, free and open to the public, is Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the third-floor conference room of the Harris Center for Science and Engineering on the Florida Tech campus.
The Institute hosts Ann Marie Keim, NASA senior IT assessor and information assurance official. Her presentation will include lessons learned from recent and high- profile breaches, and the changes in preferred targets. She will highlight that the preferred methods to gain entry into sensitive infrastructure may not be what you expect. Also, she says, “Organizations must be as adaptable as the hackers, which is proving to be a major challenge for some companies.”
Keim has been in the IT field since 1983, when a PC XT with a 10MB drive was the device to have. Her career has spanned IT in the corporate banking, finance and insurance industries, and she spent nine years with the Department of Defense, where she specialized in migrating and securing networks and operating systems. Her work at Defense Information System Agency (DISA) helped establish guidelines and auditing procedures for the military Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process.
Currently, at NASA, Keim provides guidance to Kennedy Space Center employees and contractors as they move to a new era in collaborative space programs and is actively involved in mobile device management and cloud security. Her credentials include CISSP, CISA, CRISC and a Master’s of Science in cybersecurity. She also participates in the Safe and Secure program, helping tweens and teens stay safe as they travel through cyberspace. Keim calls herself the “proud mother” of U.S. Army Capt.
