Florida Tech Arts Series Presents World Music Ensemble Feb. 22

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Humanities and Communication Performing Arts Series, sponsored by Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, will present Florida State University's OmniMusica Ensemble Feb. 22. The concert will be held on campus in the Gleason Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.

OmniMusica, an eclectic world-music ensemble, is directed by Florida State Head of Ethnomusicology and World Music Michael Bakan. The group will perform a variety of folk and ethnic music styles on instruments from around the world.

Bakan, also the director of the Sekaa Gong Hanuman Agung Balinese Gamelan ensemble, received his doctoral degree in ethnomusicology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1993 and his bachelor's degree in percussion performance at the University of Toronto, Canada, in 1985. He is the author of several books including World Music: Traditions and Transformations, which has been adopted at more than 150 universities and colleges worldwide.

The event is free to Florida Tech students. General admission is $15; and $5 for seniors and children under 12.
