MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Foosaner Art Museum, Florida Institute of Technology, features Museum Monday on May 20, at 10 a.m., in the Harris Community Auditorium. The event spotlights Derek Gores, a local mixed-media artist. Gores has gained national and international attention for his collage portrait series, recycling magazines, labels and found materials to create works on canvas. This is the last Museum Monday of the spring season.
Most recently, Gores was commissioned to design official artwork for the 2013Kentucky Derby. Titled "More Than Meets The Eye," the official Kentucky Derby 139 commemorative poster showcases Gores' unique "torn paper" collage technique.
Museum Monday is a community outreach program that focuses on art and creativity. Each free program is held on the fourth Monday of the month, January through May. Light refreshments are served.
