Florida Tech Opens Site at Eglin Air Force Base, Offers Logistics Management Degree

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology, with its main campus in Melbourne, Fla., has opened a new site at Eglin Air Force Base. Enrollment is going on now for the site’s first degree program, a bachelor’s degree in logistics management. More undergraduate and graduate programs are being planned.

“Eglin Air Force Base is a wonderful opportunity to expand the number of sites for Florida Tech’s Department of Extended Studies to serve military and civilian education,” said Ted Richardson, senior associate dean and professor, Florida Tech Department of Extended Studies.

Site Director Jeffrey D. Cerny has had a 40-year career in the defense industry. Most recently he has been a senior associate with The Interconnect Group in Huntsville, Ala., assisting organizations with advanced technology.

Cerny has also been a corporate officer with Textron Defense Systems, a principal research scientist with the University of Alabama, an advanced systems engineer Army Missile Command and an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton—all positions in Huntsville, Ala. In academia, Cerny has been an adjunct professor at Boise State University, Florida Tech and the University of Phoenix Online.

A graduate of West Point with a bachelor’s degree in general engineering, Cerny has a master’s degree in business from Texas A&M-Texarkana University and a doctor’s degree in business from Nova Southeastern University. He also attended and graduated from the Air War College in Montgomery, Ala., as a seminar student.

About the Department of Extended Studies
Florida Tech’s Department of Extended Studies offers degree and certificate programs at 11 sites and through a virtual campus. Classes are conducted in a traditional manner with admission and graduation standards the same as those required on campus. In one year’s time more than 1,500 students may be enrolled in one of nearly 40 degree or certificate programs offered at off-campus locations. Florida Tech has joined the G.I. Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, easing the cost for veterans and their dependents to attend college.
