  • What are your thoughts on a possible military draft for 18-24 year old males and females?
    • If necessary it would be good to include women. But only if the draft became absolutely necessary.
    • Only if necessary.
    • No, you shouldn't force people to fight in an army.
    • I'm a female and I don't want to fight. I am sure that there are many males out there who don't want to fight either. A draft should not be used unless it is completely necessary.
    • Avoid it at all costs.
    • I do not believe females should be drafted (all volunteers to serve though). However, drafts are scary no matter what.
    • Bush will have to convince the American people that the cause is right, or it will be Vietnam all over again.
    • If it's proven necessary I'll be hehind it. I'd likely try to join up for OLS before getting drafted, however, so I could have more choice of a job. As far as females ... feminists have fought for equality so long that I better not hear them complaining.
    • I think it is good to include women. However, at this point in time, I agree with President Bush that our military is large enough to handle the current situation.
    • Florida Tech will become sparse!
  • What message would you like to send to the Columbia astronaut families?
    • Be at peace.
    • They're in Heaven
    • Our thoughts and prayer for their family.
    • When our worlds come crash down, and everything begins to spin out of control, one thing will not change. God loves you and he has a plan for your lives. His plan included the crash, and even though we do not understand his purpose we must cling to the hope that he is in control, nothing can catch him off guard. He works everything for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. You are in our prayers ...
    • Your husbands/wives/brothers/sisters were incredibly brave men and women who took part in a risky endeavour, but it was something they believed in. They will be remembered with honor by those of us who have similar aspirations. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
    • Your courage and strength is an inspiration to us here at FIT.
    • We send all our prayers to make you happy.
    • We are very thankful for the astronauts' work, courage, and lives!
    • They will be remembered!
    • Our prayers are with you.
    • Keep your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ! "We know that all things work together for those who love God and are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
    • Only God known love
    • They made a great sacrifice. We're working hard to make sure no one else has to.
    • It is always a miracle for me, what happened is a humanity tragedy for all of us. God bless them anywhere.
    • My prayers are with all of you. Though I can't understand why it happened, I pray God will touch you and bring you comfort at this time. Their lives were a tribute to giving your all for something you believe in.

Unbeknownst to him, the fire goes out on the stove and gas fills the room. "Someone" touches the young lad. He wakes up startled, only to find no one in the room. Of course, he quickly shuts off the gas and opens all windows. The End!

  • If our world rids itself of the current terrorists, how do we prevent future ones?
    • The Word of God
    • Negotiate international standard penalties for terrorism and enforce them strictly, accompanied by education in peacemaking.
    • See why the terrorists do these things and if we as a nation have done something wrong. If not, then have a group that their sole purpose is to pursue them and terrorize them.
    • Trying to prevent future terrorists is like trying to prevent future crime. It all comes down to the sacrifices we a re willing to stand into our privacy.
    • Get rid of inequality.
    • More funding to intelligence, more penetration in terrorist cells, lighter restrictions on informants; but, most of all, don't make ourselves a target. So, realistically, it's nearly impossible ...
    • Increase communication between countries.
    • Evil is in the heart of man ... regardless of what weapons/laws ... one uses, it won't stop "whomever" from doing "insane" things, from crashing a plane or shooting a so-called friend! We prevent future ones through prayer ... that their hearts (our hearts) will change.
    • The same way we deal with the present ones. The strongest survive.
    • "War, peace, revolution; the three-step endless waltz of our history ..."
    • We cannot stop anyone before they do something, but after the crime if people viciously avenge themselves it will dissuade future terrorists.
    • Address the reasons people choose terrorism over peaceful solutions.
    • There isn't anything we can do to prevent future terrorist. They will appear and disappear regardless of what we, or anyone does. If we stand strong and firm in our actions with terrorists, it is the best we can do to discourage them from attacking us. We need to allow our undercover agents to go back into deep cover, so we can anticipate the magnitude and dates of future attacks.
  • How can we enact love and justice in light of yesterday's terrorist tragedy? (Posted 9/12/2001)

  • What are your thoughts on stem cell research?
    • Good as long as it is under strict regulation
    • I'm for it so long as it is voluntary
    • We are trying to play God too much
    • Since when have scientists become the equivalent to a modern day God?
    • I think that our government should spend money on more pressing issues!
    • I understand the need for research -- my only concern is where it comes from. [embryos bred for that reason?]
    • It holds great promise, but must be done responsibly.
    • It'll lead to decisions to do worse to collect stem cells, i.e. more abortions, harvesting, ...
    • The problem with the issue is the two opposing sides are so extreme they forget what they are trying to solve.
    • I'm for it as long as it does not involve embryos.
    • As long as a sentient being's future is not threatened in any way, go for it.
    • If it is done responsibly (not harming human life) ... & it will benefit humans in the future
    • Positive, as long as it doesn't threaten life
    • Like all research it will lead onwards to more, which will lead to a more complete understanding of how things work. Note: this is not an explanation of why, nor an attempt to become gods, just a new step in the quest of satisfying curiosity!

    • The second coming
    • Unity
    • Hopefully truth
    • The same as always: new ones come, old ones go, and some will last!
    • Sealed plates translated and Jesus' millennial reign
    • No future - it will eventually die out
    • One truth, one people, one hope, one God, all reconciled
    • A clearer understanding of Christianity
    • Probably the eventual collapse of the current religion and culture, with yet anther religion taking over with the rise of a new culture!
    • Using the Middle East as an example, one will either learn to exist with another or one religion will eliminate the other
    • Combined religions
    • Good question ...
    • Increased denomination tension, then lasting reconciliation
    • Heaven (for Christians)
    • It will be pretty much the same as it is now
    • Hopefully understanding
    • If history is followed then religion will slowly become less important in everyday life. People will start having faith in themselves and what they can do as opposed to having faith in what an invisible man in the sky could do for them.

    • Affirmative Action for class, not race

    • No - it is not fair to the people who should get in but can't because someone not as smart as them happens to have the right heritage

  • What is your view of religion?
    • Man's attempt to find God.
    • Religion is not just being religious it is living your life in such a way as to show your gratitude of what Jesus did by dying on the cross to take away my sins.
    • A complete code of life.
    • To be close to God.
    • Religion is someone you can talk to, somewhere you can go anytime, anywhere, in need or "just like that ..."
    • I have one question for all of you: how could god have a son?? Use your sense!

  • Where do religion and politics meet?
    • Hopefully, the wise morals of religion undergird the decisions of politics.
    • They've always met since the beginning of time!
    • On the battleground of fray
    • Whenever you want them to ...
    • Unfortunately, too often they interfere with each other in adverse ways. Politics is about getting along with others - so is religion, but too often they are both used for power trips.
    • Life is but a religion, politics is within that.
    • Nowhere!
    • There is a place for everything! You just need to know where & when everything should be involved!
    • Religion should have an influence in every part of our lives.

    • I still don't understand how they get rid of the head.
    • Why clone humans when we can clone the individual organs?
    • Consider what you believe to be a life. Organ? Body? Brain? Soul? I do not know.
    • Cloning individual organs would be better because we could clone organs that match the DNA & blood type of the individual patient. That would prevent organ rejection.
    • Do you consider the headless being to be alive? If it does not have a soul I do not think it is an ethical question.
    • But how do you know what has a soul? Do you need a brain for a soul?
