With over 20 years of drag racing experience, Elaine Larsen has found her home behind the wheel of her jet dragsters. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Chris, and they never looked back.
Elaine is a two-time IHRA world champion. With their son Andrew and dog Nitro, Elaine lives her life at full throttle. Her motto is What’s behind me does not matter, keep focused on the finish line! “Racing the jet dragster is only part of the fun, getting to interact with the fans at the race is definitely the highlight,” says Elaine. Growing up in a small farming community as a Mennonite, Elaine was never exposed to the racing world. Racing was totally out of character for Elaine, but once she made her first pass down the quarter mile, she was hooked.
She undeniably practices what she preaches. Never one to back down from a challenge, Elaine faces every new obstacle head-on. She never let being a female in a male-dominated world affect her in any way. "Drag Racing is the equalizer, on any given day, I have the same chance as anyone to win, it just has to be my day!!“ says Elaine. Being a strong, positive, female role model is a job Elaine takes very seriously, not only for the little girls, but to all ladies out there to never give up and always give 100%. Elaine is 47 and proud of where she is in her life. Every night before she goes to bed, she knows that she had the guts to go for the glory!
Chris Larsen, founder and co-owner of Larsen motorsports, proudly represents one of the largest turbine-powered motorsports drag racing companies in the world.
He met and married his high school sweetheart. He earned a degree in aeronautics and applied science. Never afraid of a hard day’s work, with his wife Elaine, he attended college, worked full-time and earned his pilot’s license in only three years. With his degree in airframe and power plant, as well as being an FAA-licensed pilot, Chris, along with Elaine, moved to Florida where he started his aviation career at the Cessna Citation Company. In his 17 years at Cessna, he lead the quality control department and then became the Southeast U.S. training manager at Cessna’s largest factory-owned business jet service facility.
Getting his wife involved in his passion for racing was something that Chris knew was key. “Putting her in the race car was natural, she would never complain about buying $1000 for shocks even if her toaster was broken,” says Larsen. Now owner of a premiere turbine-powered drag race team, the Larsens keep looking forward. One of Chris's largest passions has become to introduce new talented young adults to the motorsports industry that he loves so much. Chris has aligned his company as an affiliate of Florida Institute of Technology in order to bring career-minded young adults to the industry.
