Become a molecular biologist and find yourself involved in pharmaceutical or biotechnology research.
Molecular biology involves such disparate areas as genetic engineering, biotechnology, the human genome project, cell structure, bacteria resistance and cancer research. A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Molecular Biology from Florida Tech prepares students both for graduate studies in a wide variety of areas (including medical school) or one of many molecular biology careers.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Standards (BLS), provides information about specific jobs including median annual pay, working conditions and job outlook, among other things. According to the bureau, employment in biology fields is expected to grow as much as 20% through 2018, depending on the career path. Careers in medicine are growing faster than the average due to an aging baby-boom population and the demand for lifesaving new drugs and procedures to cure and prevent disease.
If you want to consider other molecular biology careers, such as research, biochemistry or biophysics, employment is also strong in such areas as the energy sector, agriculture (genetically engineered food), environmental initiatives and the federal government (bio-terrorism).
