Work With and Learn From Internationally Known Professors
Students learn from world-renowned faculty who enjoy working closely with students. Florida Tech small classes encourage a learning environment that is one of mentorship. For curriculum and career planning, students have one faculty advisor who counsels them for their entire four-year program. The strong working relationship between students and professors gives us an edge over another molecular biology university.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
A molecular biology university is dedicated to research, and Florida Tech as just one example. The biology department has a young and active faculty who involve students directly in research and internships. Students work in research labs alongside faculty, graduate students and fellow undergraduates learning the skills necessary to change the world through genetics and molecular biology.
Florida Tech faculty quickly integrate students into their research groups, which in turn means students can identify their area of specialty early on in their college career. The students benefit from the collective research money that the faculty secures.Together, the faculty has secured $3 million in external funding for the department, as well as another $2 million to support research instrumentation.
All undergraduate students conduct research, which often results in scientific journal publications and research exchange with another molecular biology university like Florida Tech.
High-Tech Laboratories Filled with Modern Instrumentation
A molecular biology university must be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Florida Tech students work and study in the state-of-the-art F. W. Olin Life Sciences Building. This 70,000-square-foot teaching and research laboratory includes an aquaculture facility, climate change institute and the offices and research labs of several of the biology faculty. It houses the Chemistry Department, state-of-the-art instrumentation and rooms for NMR spectrometers, photochemistry, high-resolution microscopy and imaging laboratory. The university has a newly built 29,000-square-foot Harris Center for Science and Engineering that serves the research needs many of the biology programs including small-scale culture of algae, shellfish and fish species. Florida Tech provides cutting-edge research learning and is a highly rated molecular biology university.
