An Interdisciplinary Science University Like Florida Tech Includes Military Leadership Programs
Design A Field of Study and Enhance Military Skills
As one of the very first programs of its kind in the country, Florida Tech's interdisciplinary science degree exposes students to a wide range of science courses, giving them considerable flexibility in the design of their major field of study. This military-focused degree offers students a chance to gain practical military skills to succeed as an officer in the U.S. Army through hands-on experience in leadership and military operations.
Small Class Sizes & Individualized Attention
Because of our small class size and close-knit academic community, students have the advantage of getting individualized attention to explore their interests and develop their career path, an essential characteristic of an interdisciplinary science university. With encouragement and support from professors, Florida Tech students often publish newspaper and magazine articles and get involved in professional and honorary organizations.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Florida Tech professors actively promote student involvement in technical research. As an interdisciplinary science university, Florida Tech's internships and research experiences are available in fields as diverse as astrophysics, nanotechnology, international business, technical writing, nuclear engineering, sustainable building development and air traffic control.
Because the professors come from various departments on campus, the research opportunities span the entire spectrum of science, engineering, business, psychology, aeronautics and humanities. As an interdisciplinary science university, Florida Tech affords students an opportunity to work alongside faculty on research concerning sustainability, high-energy physics, coastal management, international education, space systems, sports education and climate change, among others.
One of the best preparations that a student attending an interdisciplinary science university can have if they want to attend graduate school is to become an author on a published paper. Florida Tech professors make this goal attainable. Florida Tech faculty members have research interests in:
- High-energy physics
- Coastal management
- International education
- Space systems
- Sports education
- Climate change
High-Tech Laboratory Facilities
Florida Tech's state-of-the-art science facilities and laboratories make Florida Tech an interdisciplinary science university of choice. The F.W. Olin Engineering Complex houses 26 specialized research laboratories. The F.W. Olin Life Sciences Building is a teaching and research laboratory that includes an aquaculture facility, climate change institute, teaching and research laboratories -- all equipped with 21st century technology. The Harris Center for Science and Engineering serves the research needs of our aquaculture and fish biology programs.
Great Florida Location
You would be hard-pressed to find another interdisciplinary science university with the same great location as Florida Tech. The campus is located on the Space Coast, close to thousands of high-tech companies. Florida Tech students enjoy beautiful weather year-round and easy access to 72 miles of Atlantic Coast beaches, Orlando tourist attractions and NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
