I love Civil Engineering and the fact that I was able to start engineering classes in my freshman year. I recently added a double major in Sustainability Studies, and this has allowed me to see what I want truly want to do for the rest of my life. With these two degrees, I will be able to pursue Sustainable Engineering.

I enjoyed sustainability at Florida Tech because it wasn't simply "going green," it was lessons and applications for both my life and the real world. What I learned in my sustainability classes was applicable to every other class I took at here, especially systems-based ones. I also gained real world experience through an internship gained solely through my sustainability courses which was an amazing opportunity I wouldn't have obtained without Dr. Lindeman's guidance.

I love the passion the professors have for sustainability and how much care they have for its application around campus. Florida Tech doesn't just teach the subject, it practices it! While learning about fields like energy, we can see real examples like the solar energy grids used to charge the campus golf carts or on the roof of Olin Engineering Complex.

Florida Tech Sustainability Degree Program

Whether you’re interested in renewable energy, sustainability economics, green buildings or environmental governance you’ll be prepared for a fulfilling future with a sustainability degree.

Whether you want to develop new sustainable science and engineering innovations, build sustainability consulting businesses, research new ideas in environmental communication and climate change, create technology solutions for social justice, or embark upon related interdisciplinary careers, you can get there with a bachelor's degree in Sustainability Studies from Florida Tech. On the way, you'll develop strong systems-thinking skills, build hands-on experience through campus and community research projects at a university started by NASA scientists, and prepare for a career in the early decades of the remarkable emergence of many sustainability businesses.

Begin Specializing in Your Freshman Year

Our sustainability degree is dynamic and focused. You'll get started right away, taking core courses like Introduction to Sustainability and the Whole Earth Course. Guided by highly experienced faculty who care about your success, you'll obtain core biology, chemistry and math skills while specializing in your strengths, with self-customized concentration courses by the sophomore year.

Build Professional Relationships

Beyond the classroom, sustainability majors can build leadership and professional experience through exciting internships with on- and off-campus partners and participation in organizations like the Student Organization for Sustainability Action, Florida Tech Environmental Club, Student Government Association, Alpha Phi Omega and over 100 other student organizations.

Gain Practical Experience

As a junior and senior, you'll refine fundamental skills with specialized sustainability concentration courses that include many project opportunities. You'll also undertake an exciting applied capstone sustainability project sequence in a topic of your choosing that can leads to major exposure (e.g., the Northrup-Grumman Design Showcase). Students gain practical experience, an enhanced resume, and a stronger sense of scholarship – the perfect preparation for employment or graduate school.

Earn an Advanced Sustainability Degree

After receiving their sustainability degree, students are highly prepared to pursue a graduate research degree of their personal choice – either at Florida Tech or a number of other prestigious universities.
