Electrical Engineering Internships and Research Opportunities
Real-World Challenges Give Students Excellent Career Preparation
Electrical engineering internships, research and student organizations are just some of many ways that Florida Tech students get involved in and around campus for a well-rounded college experience.
Many companies offer electrical engineering internships for Florida Tech students so they can graduate with work experience and on-the-job training. Some of these nationally and internationally known companies include:
- Harris Corp.
- NASA Kennedy Space Center
Through Florida Tech's Career Management Services, these organizations collaborate with students to give them job experience through electrical engineering internships that prepares them for a career.
The electrical engineering faculty is diverse, with research interests that span the field. The department's faculty includes one IEEE Fellow, one IEEE Life Fellow, a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Signal and Imaging Systems Engineering.
In addition to electrical engineering internships, these professors make it possible for Florida Tech students to work with them on research topics that include:
- Electronic Systems
- Internet Programming
- Speech and Image Processing
- Machine Learning
Some of these research projects are even geared toward designing operations for specific organizations, including NASA and Harris Corp.
Senior Research Project
Electrical engineering internships and research activities also help students prepare for their senior engineering project. All Florida Tech electrical engineering students culminate their studies with a senior design project that challenges them to design, develop, prototype and present a complex engineering system. Some past projects that our students have completed include:
- Wireless communications and cellular systems
- Spacecraft systems
- Neural networks
- Speech recognition and speaker identification
- Digital signal processing
These projects start with simple designs and end with elaborate and professional presentations displayed and discussed at Florida Tech's Northrop Grumman Senior Design Showcase.
And Even More!
The National Science Foundation funds a grant for a 10-week summer research experience offered to undergraduate students that are focused on machine learning.
Joins Clubs and Organization to Enhance Your Degree
Members of Florida Tech's student chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (known as FIT-IEEE) take part in robotics competitions and professional conferences.
The Society of Women Engineers works to spark interest in math and science and promote the engineering field to all students. They participate in regular lectures, conferences and gatherings to advance this cause.
Electrical engineering internships, research and networking opportunities help students enhance their learning and be fully prepared for a job after college.
