A Mathematics University Excels At Creating Interdisciplinary Learning Opportunities
Florida Tech's Program Gives Graduates an Integrated Mix of Career Expertise
One of the most important aspects of the mathematical sciences program is that it teaches application of math in areas such as engineering, the physical and life sciences, environmental science, social science and business. This unique interdisciplinary degree provides students with a myriad of career options upon graduation.
Strong Learning Relationship Between Professors and Students
Students attending a mathematics university like Florida Tech benefit from working with knowledgeable mentors who put students success first. The Department of Mathematical Sciences faculty members all have doctoral degrees in their field and are highly respected on an international level. They teach all classes and are involved in current research work, which often involves undergraduate students, something many students look for in choosing a mathematics university.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Our professors, internationally renowned experts, have a wide range of expertise and are involved in meaningful research. As a mathematics university, we get students involved in faculty-run interdisciplinary research during your freshman year.
The program is hands-on, modeling-based, and includes lab and field experiments as part of your program. Some of the research you may be involved in includes applied statistics, mathematical programming, neural networks, combinatorial optimization, operations research and queuing theory.
High-Tech Research and Laboratory Facilities
As a mathematics university, Florida Tech has the facilities and resources to ensure its students are prepared for their career and have experience with the latest tools and technology. There are two computer labs in the math department available to math students. The labs are equipped with sophisticated mathematical and statistical software packages, such as MATLAB, Mathematics, and SAS. In addition, students have access to the state-of-the-art engineering and science labs.
A Great Florida Location Surrounded by High-Tech Companies
The average mathematics university will have a hard time competing with Florida Tech. Our campus is close to the fifth largest high-tech workforce in the country, with more than 5,000 high-tech companies. This translates into countless internships and jobs for our students.
In addition, Florida Tech's location on the Space Coast puts it near the Indian River Lagoon, and the Atlantic Ocean. Opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular activities abound, such as student organizations, area events and activities, Kennedy Space Center, Sebastian Inlet and Orlando theme parks.
