Choose Florida Tech for Bachelor of Science Applied Mathematics

There are many reasons to choose Florida Tech as your applied mathematics university. Florida Tech offers students the tools and resources that you expect to find at a larger university at a private college in a smaller, more intimate setting.

A Degree with Flexibility

One of the first benefits of an applied mathematics university is that it teaches math application in areas such as engineering, the physical and life sciences, environmental science, social science and business—so that when you graduate, careers in all of these fields will be open to you. Careers in mathematics are some of the highest-paying, most available jobs for graduates.

Small Classes – World Renowned Faculty

The classes at Florida Tech are small, with less than 50 undergraduate students in the program. This small faculty-to-student ration creates a close-knit academic community and intensive faculty interaction that is rare for an applied mathematics university.

The professors in the math department have doctoral degrees and teach the classes (not graduate students). They are engaged in meaningful research currently being studied in the field including stochastic finance, partial differential equations, finite elements, parallel computing, hyperbolic systems and critical point theory. Professors are always available for advising students, and often counsel the same groups of students through their entire applied mathematics university experience.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

In addition to being encouraged to participate in internships in industry and/or government agencies, all students are also urged to participate in research on many topics including operations research, mathematical modeling and methods of nonlinear analysis. Mathematics students complete a capstone research experience designed to prepare them for graduate school and careers of the future.

High-Tech Laboratory Facilities

The facilities and resources available for students are important for any applied mathematics university, and Florida Tech doesn't disappoint. Besides the engineering and science labs available in other departments, there are two computer labs in the math department with sophisticated mathematical and statistical software packages such as MATLAB, Mathematics, SAS, Mathematica R and Sage, as well as a parallel computing lab. Students may also seek assistance from the Academic Support Center on campus, which offers free individual tutoring, group tutoring and study sessions.

Great Florida Location

One of the benefits Florida Tech has as an applied mathematics university is being located within the Florida High Tech Corridor, the home of more than 5,000 high-tech companies and the fifth largest high-tech workforce in the nation.

The Florida Tech campus is just minutes away from Atlantic Ocean beaches; Florida Tech's own Botanical Gardens, a 30-acre tropical garden with trails and streams; a 32,000-square-foot Panther Aquatic Center; and tennis and sand volleyball courts. Located in the region are other attractions such as NASA Kennedy Space Center, Port Canaveral, Sebastian Inlet and Orlando theme parks.

These factors combine to make Florida Tech the applied mathematics university of choice.
