What I like best about my degree program is all of the hands-on field work. Also, the campus is very small which makes it easy to make friends quickly.

Become a STEM Teacher

Enrolling in the UTeach program offers you a full-fledged major plus a secondary teaching certification.

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) play an increasingly important role in society, from addressing critical needs, spawning new innovations and influencing the global economy.

To answer national concerns about the quality of k-12 education in these vital areas, and to attract a wide range of science and mathematics majors into secondary teaching careers, the Bachelor of Science in STEM Education at Florida Tech prepares students on how to become a teacher in high school science, technology, engineering or math. This four-year UTeach program is an innovative teacher preparation program first established at the University of Texas at Austin, focused on addressing the national shortage of STEM education teachers in America's schools.

Earn an Accredited Multi-Disciplinary Degree

Florida Tech has the unique advantage of being the only private technological university in the country that offers a UTeach degree program. Through the department of education and interdisciplinary studies, Bachelor of Science students can add this education degree to their primary specialization in math, science, or engineering and gain additional expert training in how to become a teacher. It is designed for students majoring in chemistry, general biology, physics and mathematical sciences. The program is accredited by the state of Florida

Begin Specializing Your First Year

At Florida Tech, students get involved in their core career curriculum and teacher training their first year. From the very first course in the UTeach program, students learn what it is like to stand in front of a class and present a lesson. Hands-on experiences allow students to better understand what a teaching career involves and how to become a teacher in their area of specialization. With a world-class faculty made up largely of internationally recognized and accomplished researchers, there is no better place than Florida Tech to be a part of an innovative UTeach program that trains them how to become a teacher.

Build Professional Relationships

Studying at Florida Tech provides a very personal and highly supportive learning environment for students interested in learning how to become a teacher. Guided by experienced professors who are experts in their field, students soon develop tight-knit collaborative learning mentorships with their professors and peers.

Gain Practical Experience

Students studying science, technology, engineering and math who are also learning how to become a teacher can participate in clinical (apprentice) teaching, complete research projects, complete internships through Brevard County Public Schools or even gain an apprenticeship as a high school teacher. Florida Tech boasts modern, high-tech facilities and state-of-the-art laboratories filled with the tools students need to succeed.

Get Recruited Upon Graduation

Students expand their future career opportunities by adding the UTeach STEM education program to their degree. Not only are they prepared for a career in science, technology, engineering or math, but if they desire, are prepared to enter graduate school. By earning an interdisciplinary degree that includes learning how to become a teacher, students have a variety of options at graduation.
