Human factors refers to the field of study that identifies the principles of human/machine interaction and applies those principles to the design and operation of complex systems. Thus, the field is both an applied science with an intimate and direct connection to the operational world and a rigorous research domain rooted in cognitive, physiological and engineering theory. This program has two options: nonthesis and thesis. The nonthesis option is tailored for the working professional who needs to acquire and apply up-to-date, practical human factors expertise in the workplace. The thesis option is tailored for the working professional to engage in advanced human factors research and additional education beyond the master’s degree.
Admission Requirements
An applicant to this program must have earned a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an institution of acceptable academic standing. Some aviation background or education is also desirable.
Applicants should refer to online learning, Virtual Campus at Florida Tech (http://www.fit.edu/apply/) for current application information. Generally, applicants are expected to provide official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended, a statement of objectives, a current résumé, and at least one recommendation letter. Undergraduate grade point average (GPA) is weighted heavily in application evaluation. As a general rule, an undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is required for admission. Exceptions may be granted for post-undergraduate-degree professional accomplishments and relevant experience documented in the résumé and statement of objectives.
Curriculum
The Master of Science in Human Factors in Aeronautics is offered online with both nonthesis and thesis options, requiring the satisfactory completion of the prescribed 30 credit hours for the nonthesis program and 33 credit hours for the thesis program, including six credit hours of Thesis (AHF 5999).
