BS - Accounting
What is an Accounting Degree?
Whether you want to be a tax accountant, corporate auditor or certified public accountant (CPA), you can get there with an accounting degree from Florida Tech. Here, you'll develop a strong background in business and get hands-on experience in modern accounting strategies and best practices. The accounting degree program integrates strong accounting courses with real world experience, providing a solid business framework.
Our accounting degree program is dynamic and focused. You'll get started right away, taking core courses like Global Business Perspectives and Computer Applications for Business as a freshman. Guided by highly accomplished faculty who care about your success, you'll build the foundation you need to pursue an accounting-track MBA and/or take the CPA exam.

Internships and Cooperative Learning:
All accounting degree majors complete the Practicum in Business during the second semester of their senior year. The practicum bridges the gap between classroom studies and the real world, easing the transition from business student to industry professional. Students are matched with a host organization of interest to them where they conduct a "live case analysis" of the organization, and:

Future Outcomes
Outcomes - Grad School: After graduation, accounting degree students have an excellent background in the business and management fields and can directly enter the job market, in commerce, industry, government or other areas. Many students wish to continue into graduate school, to earn the credits required to sit for the CPA exam, or to pursue an MBA or law degree. In addition to continuing their studies at Florida Tech, recent graduates have attended:

Outcomes - Career and Salary: In 2009, the average starting salary for accounting degree B.S. graduates was $48,575 (Source: NACE National Association of Colleges and Employers).
The demand and salaries for accountants are excellent and accelerating. More job opportunities exist for Florida Tech accounting degree graduates than there are graduating seniors. Graduates go onto become certified public accountants, managerial accountants, tax accountants, and chief financial officers.

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting is a traditional four-year accounting program providing a solid business framework. This program includes the business practicum (focused on accounting) as well as access to the corporate mentor program. Students planning to take the CPA examination in Florida receive a solid foundation preparing them for the MBA accounting track, where they can earn sufficient credits to be eligible for this examination.
Candidates for a Bachelor of Science in Accounting must complete the minimum course requirements as outlined in the following curriculum.
