Welcome to the SOAR Rocket project
You have entered the site of a student rocket project from the College of Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. We invite you to browse through here for an understanding of who we are and the goals of our mission. The links on the left hand side of the main page will guide you around the site.
The Project Information link takes you into SOARís background, mission objectives, organizational structure and timeline. The Team Information link will take you to a page that displays each studentís biography and resume within their respective sub-teams to provide a sense of the types of students we have working on this project. The Finances link will provide you with our budget information. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for the SOAR Project, please click on the Sponsors link for more information.
Additional Project Links have been provided for more information about SOAR and past rocket projects. The SOAR Documents Link gives you access to all of our written reports and oral presentations. Pictures will be uploaded into the SOAR Image Gallery as they are taken. SERRA, JAMSTAR, and FITSatIII are links to their respective rocket project websites. Jamstars.com is the professional organization that works with students on a volunteer basis with the projects and the FIT link will take you to the schoolís main web page.
Towards the bottom portion of the site, our Project News section will be updated as important news develops, while the Project Updates section contains updates from the different sub-teams. Our team structure has been organized to focus on five main areas producing the following individual teams: Propulsion, Stability, Sustainer, Payload, and Software.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have. We hope that you enjoy your SOAR experience!

Design Updates
|
The booster, transition and sustainer drawings are completed. We are presently finishing up the the structural calculation and update simiulations. Our major milestone thus far is that we have completed the preliminary drawings for the booster, sustainer, and transition in Pro/E. These will be sent to our motor vendors. Also, some basic structural calculations for thickness have been completed; none will be on the way. Furthermore, our rocket simulation has been updated to include new drag coefficient for out sustainer (40% increases) and for our booster (80% increase) to match our current research. |

Looking into different types of materials and how they interface with one another to create the structure needed to protect the payload and hold the recovery system. |
Current fin design is being worked on. Designing fin shape & structure. Looking for data on existing fins. Evaluating aerodynamics on fin designs using modeling software. |
|
Aiming to create 6 electronic systems for SOAR: a main controller, avionics, transmission, power, camera, and an inertial navigation system. |
The SOAR Rocket Monitor is in beta phase, most of the software components have been complete. Software has yet to be tested with the base station, after which it will be finalized before the launch date. |
