Team Information

SOAR is made up of a large group of dedicated students who plan to make history with the first ever student made rocket launching to "black", a minimum of 62.5 miles into the Ionosphere. We represent various disciplines including Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Engineering, as well as Physics and Space Science. We make up every class level from seniors to freshman.

Below is information that will acquaint you with the SOAR team. Each link also provides the reader with a chance to get to know each of the team leaders and members. Biographies and Resumes have been provided.

Project Leaders

These students were chosen to create, develop, and manage a team that would ensure the success of the SOAR Project. They are highly motivated, hard working, and dedicated to the overall mission.

Propulsion Team

These students have particular interest in researching and designing the SOAR propulsion system. They will have to utilize and combine their knowledge in rocket motors to develop one that will take us to our desired altitude.

Payload Development Team

The students on this team are aiming to create 6 electronic systems: main controller, avionics, transmission, power, inertial navigation system, and a camera system. They will be taking all of their electrical and computer experiences learned from the classroom and applying the principles to this project.

Sustainer Team

The challenge for this group of students is to design a structure that will hold the payload and recovery systems, while attached to the 2nd stage motor. This structure must be able to withstand all forces that will be acting upon it during the flight. They will have to focus on aerodynamics and structures to help guide them in this endeavor.

Stability Team

The main focus for these students is to ensure stability of the rocket from launch to landing. They will utilize many aerodynamic principles for this portion of project.

Software Development Team

This division of SOAR will be producing a commercial level software product that will be released to the open source community. With varying ranges of experience and background this team will gain experience that is normally attained at the professional level. It is not only the goal of this team to produce a robust piece of software but to create a project that will live on through open source.
