Women's Business Center at Florida Tech
The Women's Business Center at Florida Tech offers training, counseling, mentoring and networking resources with the specific mission of “leveling the playing field” for women entrepreneurs facing potential obstacles in the world of business. The WBC at Florida Tech provides business development through a variety of short- and long-term training and counseling programs specifically targeting women.
The WBC at Florida Tech works with women entrepreneurs in Brevard, Indian River and St. Lucie counties to explore opportunities for starting, growing or expanding a business while reducing and/or eliminating obstacles. Women with low incomes, welfare recipients, or single heads of households may be interested in a home-based business; but need resources and training to get started along with support services for sustainability and growth.
Brevard County is part of the high-tech corridor in the State of Florida. For over twenty years, businesses large and small have started, grown and benefitted greatly from the space, tourism and other high tech industries. With the retirement of the shuttle fleet and change in priorities within the space program, many businesses in the county have been affected either directly or indirectly. The WBC at Florida Tech assists these women entrepreneurs in refocusing to determine new opportunities and markets. Given the shift in the economic climate in the county, opportunities for individuals to start, run and grow their own companies have greatly increased. The WBC at Florida Tech provides women entrepreneurs with the opportunity to learn how to build a strong infrastructure for success.
The WBC at Florida Tech has leveraged its resources through a wide range of partnerships in meeting the needs of local women entrepreneurs and small businesses. This leveraging mitigates the duplication of public and private projects or services within the market area and allows for the WBC at Florida Tech to provide complementary services. WBC at Florida Tech has established channels of collaboration to ensure maximum coverage of time, funds, expertise and assets.
The Women's Business Center at Florida Tech is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The WBC is an outreach of the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business. The Women's Business Center at Florida Tech is proud to be part of a national network of nearly 100 educational centers designed to assist women entrepreneurs start and grow small businesses.
