1.
What’s this I hear about the residence
halls closing for the summer?
That’s
right, all residence halls will close at
12 Noon on Sunday, May 8, 2005. (If you
need to stay past this date you should
fill
out an extension form and return it the
Office of Residence Life located on the
second floor of the Denius Student Center
by May 3, 2005.) An approved extension
will
allow you to remain in your room longer,
but no later than noon on Tuesday, May
10,
2005. NOTE: Florida Tech summer housing
residents will receive extensions when
their
contracts are finalized. Summer residents
will be allowed to remain in their current
assignment until summer housing areas open
on Friday, May 13, 2005. However, you must
still complete your room condition report
with your RA by noon on Sunday, May 8th.
2.
I’m graduating, what do I do?
Those
students participating in Commencement have
until Noon on SUNDAY the 8th to move out
of their assignments. All you need to do
is make sure you have checked out with your
RA, completed your Room Condition Report
and turned in your keys*
3.
How and when do I check out of my room?
Residence
Life Staff in your area will post signs
telling you how to arrange for room inspections
and check-out. They will also be conducting
floor meetings to further explain check-out
procedures with you. Your room must be inspected
by an RA before noon on Sunday, May 8th
(even if you are staying for the summer).
4. What if I have an extension?
If you have an approved extension you must
check-out with the RA by the date and time
indicated on the extension form. You must
be present during this inspection or sign
an Express Check-Out.
5.
How do I know if my RA will be available
to check me out?
Schedule a check-out
appointment with your RA by signing up for
a time on his/her door. If your RA is not
available at the time you need to do a check-out,
sign up for a check-out time with another
RA in your building. Please note, you and
your roommate do not have to check-out at
the same time. Do not depend on your RA
being around when you want to leave; sign
up for a check-out time
6.
How do I prepare my room for checkout?
Before you go, be sure you have completed
the following:
- All
furniture provided for your room should
be in your room and set up.
- Any
bunk beds should be debunked
- Take
down all posters and remove tape and adhesives
from walls.
- Remove
trash and leave the room clean. Facilities
Management will provide trash bags for
each building. Please request them from
your RA if necessary.
- When
you leave, be sure to lock windows and
doors.
- Be
sure to clean and defrost your microfridge.
Failure to clean or defrost your microfridge
may result in a fine between $25 and $50
depending on the condition.
- Sweep
and dust your room.
- Everything
that you own is out of the room!
Unless
you are staying for the summer, your room
should be clean and you should be ready
to leave at the scheduled check-out time
with your RA. Your room and building keys
will be collected at the end of the check-out
and you will not be permitted further access
to the room. It is assumed that you will
check-out with your RA and will leave your
room or apartment in appropriate condition.
If not, you will be billed for any necessary
cleaning, repairs or replacements. This
might include fees for key and core replacement,
missing or damaged furniture, extra cleaning,
trash removal, etc. If you don’t feel
that you need to be there when your room
is inspected, (i.e. you feel your room is
in good condition) you may sign an Express
Check-Out Waiver, which states that you
will accept the findings of your room inspection
in your absence. Return your signed Express
Check-out and your keys to your RA. Please
Note: Final inspections are conducted by
Housing/Facilities Management personnel
to assess the condition of your room and
to look for damages that may have been missed
at check-out (for example damages to the
microfridge). Additional damage charges
may result.
7.
What about my keys?
RETURN
YOUR KEYS…
Place your keys in the pre-printed key return
envelope (available from your RA). Make
sure your name, room number and key codes
are correct and clearly printed on the front
and turn them into your RA when you check-out.
If you fill out an Express-Check-Out attach
your key envelope (with your keys inside)
to that form and return both to your RA.
Be sure that your keys are identified with
your name, etc. as loose keys will not be
credited to you. Do not return keys to your
roommate, friends or anyone other than an
RA in your building.
8.
What if I can’t take all of my things?
Can I store them here? Unfortunately,
there are NO campus storage facilities and
students MUST take ALL personal items with
them when they leave for the summer. This
policy includes all students living in the
residence halls, Southgate Apartments and
Columbia Village without exception.
9. How will I know if I am charged with
any damages? If you are billed for damage
to your room or common areas, the Office
of Residence Life will notify you in writing.
We will answer any questions concerning
your damage charges and will consider appeals
of individual charges until September 1,
2005. There is no appeal of Common Area
Damage Charges.
10. When will I get my housing deposit
back?
If
you are not living on campus next fall (moving
off-campus or transferring) and have no
damages pending on your student account,
you may request your $200 housing deposit
refund by stopping by Campus Services to
fill out a refund request form. Please allow
6 - 8 weeks following closing for processing..
FINAL

noon on Friday, May 13th at which time they
need to be moved into their summer assignment
and out of their Spring assignment (keys
must be turned in to Campus Services by
10 AM on Monday, May 16th in order to avoid
additional charges). Summer housing closes
on Saturday, July 30th (August 6th for those
students registered for the extended term)
at noon, all summer residents must vacate
their summer assignment at that time. There
will be no transition housing available
between when the summer sessions end and

COMING BACK?!!!
All
residence halls and apartments will open
for the Fall Term at 9 AM on Friday,
August 19, 2005.
Classes
begin on Monday, August 22, 2005.
Please
make your travel arrangements accordingly.
PLEASE HELP EVERYONE to depart quickly and
easily for the summer by making your travel,
storage and check-out arrangements early.
Your RA’s are students too and appreciate
your cooperation in making their lives easier
at this time of the year.
*Late
check-out fee of $150.00 and nightly charge
of $50.00/night may apply for unapproved
extensions. Failure to check-out with your
RA may result in a $50.00 improper check-out
fee. There is a $50.00/key charge for lost/not
returned room keys and $300.00 for lost/not
returned building keys. Key charges are
non-refundable once the room/building cores
have been changed. The university, at the
vacating student’s expense, will remove
personal belongings left behind at the time
of checkout.
