What is Title IX?
The federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in educational institutions is Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972. Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex under any education program or activity operated by an institution receiving or benefiting from federal financial assistance. Sexual harassment, which includes sexual violence, is a form of sex discrimination.
Dr. Joni Oglesby, Florida Institute of Technology Title IX Coordinator has the responsibility to provide support and resources to faculty, students, and staff when there are concerns related to allegations of discrimination, or harassment. The Title IX Coordinator’s responsibilities include:
- Title IX compliance
- Supports the Deputy Title IX Coordinators
- Maintains a centralized repository for all Title IX reports on campus
