Florida Institute of Technology
High Tech with a Human Touch
What is Preprofessional Biology?
The Preprofessional option contains courses meeting the needs of students interested in biology who wish to pursue health-related careers. This includes students interested in not only medicine, but also in veterinary medicine, dental school, optometry, pharmacy and other allied health professions. Florida Tech recognizes the special attention required by these students. Thus, they have a special academic adviser who has the up-to-date admission requirements, including the appropriate admission testing information. The acceptance rate for qualified students is excellent. The department offers a related degree program in Molecular Biology and participates in the Biochemistry degree program with the Department of Chemistry. Some students elect to register in dual degree programs.
What will I study?
Professional schools require a basic core of biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics courses to be taken by all applicants. As an
institute of technology, Florida Tech has exceptional programs in each of these areas. The program also includes upper-level courses in
physiology, developmental biology, biochemistry and immunology. Preprofessional students can select elective courses from a variety of
areas, including cell and molecular biology, organismic biology, ecology and several upper-division chemistry courses.
