The University

Florida Institute of Technology was founded in 1958 to offer continuing education opportunities to scientists, engineers, and technicians working at what is now NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The school grew quickly into a major scientific and technological university with both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Florida Tech is a fully accredited, coeducational, independent, privately supported university that offers more than 145 degree programs in science and engineering, aviation, business, humanities, psychology, education, and communication. Doctoral degrees are offered in 20 disciplines, while master's degrees are offered in more than 65 areas of study.

Faculty

The student to faculty ratio is 9:1, and 93% of the full time faculty have a Ph.D. or a terminal degree. The small average class size of 25 will present you with the opportunity to work one-on-one with some of the finest minds in education. In general, freshmen and sophomore level instructors carry full time teaching loads. They are closely involved with student life, and serve as advisors and counselors. Upper-level and graduate instructors are involved in both teaching and research.

Student Activities and Athletics

Florida Tech has over 2300 undergraduate students from 49 states and 88 countries. There are more than 100 student clubs and organizations, and new ones are frequently added based on student interest.

Florida Tech competes in 15 varsity sports and is a member of NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference. More than 25 intramural sports are offered and students can take advantage of the subtropical climate to participate in outdoor activities year-round. Curriculum

Science and Engineering Applicants must complete four years of math, the minimum including Trigonometry, Math Analysis and/or Pre Calculus; four years of science to include Physics and Chemistry.

Applicants For All Non-Science And Non-Engineering Majors must complete at least three years of math and three years of science. A fourth year of math and science is highly recommended.

The admission committee recommends that students take the most rigorous math and science curriculum offered by the high school.

Advanced Credit is awarded for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

Special consideration will be given to students who show evidence of classes that require research projects/opportunities and advanced problem-solving techniques
