How many credits have to be completed at Florida Tech to be awarded a degree from Florida Tech?
You must complete at least the final 30 semester hours of credit at Florida Tech to earn a degree from Florida Tech.
How long will it take me to graduate with a four-year degree from Florida Tech?
It depends on how many of your prior courses transfer directly into your desired program of study at Florida Tech. Your admission counselor can probably give you an accurate estimate of the time required to complete your degree.
If I'm in another college or university for another year prior to attending Florida Tech, how do I find out what courses I should take that will transfer directly into the major I want at Florida Tech?
Call the Office of Admission prior to registering for classes, explain to your counselor what major you want to pursue at Florida Tech and what courses you have already successfully completed. He or she will be happy to recommend courses appropriate for your desired program of study.
Once admitted, how do I register for classes at Florida Tech?
In order to register, you must first confirm enrollment by making your tuition deposit (or having it waived by the Office of Undergraduate Admission). After this you must meet any Placement Exam requirements and discuss scheduling with your academic advisor, either in person or over the phone. Your advisor must grant permission in order for you to access online registration via your PAWS account. We encourage you to meet the above criteria as soon as possible so you have the opportunity to register for classes prior to your arrival!
Do I have to attend Orientation?
Yes. You must check in, secure your student ID, ensure all your documents are in order and register for classes. You will also meet and learn about your new academic faculty and academic unit.
What are the housing options/requirements at Florida Tech?
Housing is available for all students. There are seven residence halls and an apartment complex on campus. If you are a freshman-level student with less than 24 semester hours of credit, you are required to live on campus and participate in a meal plan unless you are married, over 21 years old or live with your parents in the Melbourne area. The universityĆs residency requirement is one year.
What is Florida Tech's Accreditation?
Florida Institute of Technology is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, baccalaureate, master's, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. The Engineering programs are also accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The Computer Science program is also accredited by the Computer Science Accreditation Commission of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board. Chemistry is also accredited by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society. Aeronautical Science and Aviation Management programs are also accredited by the Council on Aviation Accreditation.
Is a campus visit and admission interview necessary?
An interview is not required for admission, but a visit to campus is highly recommended. We have a beautiful campus that we want you to see! The visit provides you with an interview with a faculty member in the major you want to pursue and allows you to see the excellent facilities and opportunities offered in that program area. Also, the meeting with your admissions counselor will make all the information presented in this guide clear and easy to understand, and ensure that your documents are in order. Campus visit information and special visit dates are available from the Office of Admissions and on the university Web site at http://www.fit.edu/ugrad/visit
