How will my credits transfer to Florida Tech?
Florida Tech will transfer credit for courses taken at another university that is accredited by a major regional accrediting association in the United States. Credit is granted on a course-by-course basis. The courses taken must be equivalent to those given at Florida Tech in course content and hours, and you must have received a grade of C or better. Courses for transfer must have been completed within the last 10 years prior to Florida Tech enrollment. Credits from international colleges and universities are only transferred if the international college or university is listed in the Handbook of International Universities.
How do I find out how many of my courses/credits will transfer?
An unofficial transfer of credit evaluation (UTCE) is performed by the Office of Admission upon admission. A UTCE is an estimation, by admission personnel, of the credit you will be granted. UTCEs are conservative in their estimates and may reflect a higher number of elective credit if admission cannot directly match courses to those offered at Florida Tech. UTCEs are performed on credits being transferred from U.S. colleges and universities only. An “official” transfer of credit evaluation for US colleges and universities is completed by the Office of the Registrar after receipt of the $300 tuition deposit. It is a more detailed evaluation performed by the academic units responsible for the equivalent Florida Tech courses. Once a student is enrolled, the official transfer of credit is reported on the students transcripts in terms of equivalent Florida Tech course identifications.
Will all my transfer credits count toward degree completion at Florida Tech?
It depends. Florida Tech's degree requirements are very specific for each major, you may receive credit for courses that are not applicable toward your desired degree.
What type of credits will not transfer?
Credit is not awarded for courses listed on a transcript without a grade, or courses carrying grades but no credit hours. Credit is not awarded for vocational/technical courses, correspondence courses, experiential learning or military experience. Credit is not awarded for courses completed more than 10 years prior to Florida Tech enrollment. Credit is awarded for courses taken at accredited colleges and universities only.
How do I get credit for CLEP or AP and IB examinations?
Florida Tech offers credit for CLEP “Subject” examinations. The minimum score must be above the recommended percentile as published by the American Council on Education. Florida Tech offers credit for AP examinations, and credit for International Baccalaureate examinations . Florida Tech cannot honor the amount of credit given for these exams at a previously attended college or university.
How is credit awarded for aviation students entering Florida Tech with previously earned flight certificates and ratings?
College credit for prior flight certificates and ratings will be awarded by Florida Tech after an evaluation by our flight training department. It is a university policy and a FAA requirement that we have complete records of all flight student training, including an evaluation of prior flight experience. Students with prior flight experience will take a multiple-choice written exam, will have their logbooks evaluated and will be given a flight-check ride to determine flight proficiency. Based on the results of the evaluation, students will be awarded Advanced Standing credit commensurate with their current flight proficiency. If you have done training at a FAA Part 141 flight school, it is recommended that you supply, to our School of Aeronautics, copies of your Part 141 flight training syllabi and graduation certificates to help speed the evaluation process. It is also recommended that you provide copies of all flight certificates and ratings, copies of the last two pages of your logbook and a copy of your current flight medical certificate.
Will the GPA from my current college or university carry to Florida Tech?
Grades and grade points are not transferable. Once you matriculate to Florida Tech, your transcripts will indicate transfer courses. Your GPA starts new at the completion of your first semester at Florida Tech.
What else can I do to facilitate an easy and speedy transfer of credit process?
Make sure you have sent to Florida Tech your final official transcripts from every college or university you attended prior to Florida Tech. Copies stamped "Issued to Student," even delivered in a sealed envelope, cannot be accepted for transfer credit evaluation.
What is the deadline for transferring credit?
All official transcripts and documents must be submitted to the Registrar prior to the completion of the first semester of enrollment at Florida Tech to be considered for transfer credit awards. Request for additional transfer credit must be made before the end of the second semester. Requests for Advanced Standing must be submitted to the appropriate academic unit head no later than 45 days after initial registration.
