Best Practices for University Web Management

  • All Official University Site Pages should:
    • Possess written content provided by official University representatives
    • Possess graphical content that has met with all college standards
    • Be developed in Dreamweaver by the official University Web Services staff using standard templates, W3C compliance, currency verifications, and uniform asset usage policies.
    • Possess architecture and implementation provided by official University Web Services staff.
    • Be maintained using Contribute software - which is centrally administered and overseen by Campus Webmaster.
  • All top level pages (Home page, audience pages, etc) should:
    • Be managed exclusively by the Official College Web Services staff
    • Be subject to full approvals of the Web Advisory Committee.
    • Be monitored regularly for currency of data, accuracy of information, and management of dynamic content.
    • Be updated/enhanced regularly (at least yearly) to maintain effective, current look/feel.
  • All tier 2 administrative level pages (HR, Finaid, Student Services, Athletics, etc) should:
    • Be managed by Web Services during build/enhancement stages of development, but maintained at the department level with support from Web Services.
    • Adhere to all requirements for proper use of the college templates within a reasonable time frame of any site wide enhancements.
  • All Colleges should have an officially designed, developed, and managed portal page that conforms to all Official University Standards as set out above.
  • All Departments should have an officially developed portal page that conforms to all Official University Standards as set out above.

*NOTE: The term "Official Web Services Staff" refers to the integrated team of professionals who, collaboratively, are responsible for the Florida Tech Web site.
For additional information, please see the Roles and Responsibilities list. The basic schema for official development process is also available.
