Writing Assistance at the ASC

Writing assistance is available for Florida Tech students currently enrolled at the university. Students work with writing instructors to strengthen their composition and organization of writing assignments across the curriculum. Students may make an appointment for a one-on-one consultation and review session or use the drop-off service when an appointment isn't feasible.

At this time, writing assistance is available for undergraduate and graduate students.

Guidelines for Paper Review

For both services, the following guidelines apply:

  1. Assignments should be printed out in 10pt-12pt font, 1.5-2.0 line spacing, with 1 inch margins to allow for markup and corrections.
  2. Papers are limited to eight pages (four double-sided) and/or 2000 words. This service is not intended for thesis or dissertation review.
  3. Papers should be the work of the student taking the appointment. Academic honesty is a priority at the ASC.

Students may make an appointment online, call our office at 321-674-7110, or stop by during regular business hours. Writing assistance is available for all courses.

Drop-off services are available from 8AM to 6PM, Monday through Thursday, and 8AM to 5PM on Friday. Papers require a minimum of 36 hours for review; a paper dropped off on Friday after 12PM will not be ready until the following Monday after 12 PM.

Important: Drop-off services are NOT available to COM and HUM courses. Appointments are available for meeting one-on-one with an English instructor. These one-on-one sessions offer the option to better understand and to learn from mistakes with the assistance of an experienced instructor. If this is your case, please use the link above to make an appointment.

Who Provides Writing Assistance at the ASC?

At the ASC, all writing instruction and review is conducted by current and former University faculty with extensive experience in grammar, composition, and literature. Our writing instructors use their experience and love of language to guide students through the writing process within many disciplines. They assist with COM and WRI assignments, lab reports, and professional documents including cover letters and résumés.  Students are encouraged to bring reports from laboratory sections for review as well as traditional communications assignments in order to improve writing across all of their courses.

Writing Resources for Students

Writing instructors at the ASC have prepared a series of handouts for students to use as references to improve their writing in a variety of areas.
