Biomedical Engineering Advising | Florida Institute of Technology

Advising and Registration Process

Each undergraduate student has been assigned a Faculty Advisor. Graduate students choose their own advisors. The role of your advisor is to advise you on the more technical academic questions you may have about a particular subject, as well as advise you on the courses you will need to take in the future. These courses will coincide with the flowchart for your program.

Approximately 10 weeks into the semester, the schedule of classes for the following semester will be distributed. Once you have decided on which classes you wish to take, you will fill out a registration form and meet with your advisor. (Freshmen will meet with the Freshmen Advisors at the Freshmen Advisor Center.) Your advisor will review the courses that you wish to take and advise you of any changes that need to be made. Once your advisor has signed your registration form, you can register for classes either online via PAWS or at the Registration Center. You can later adjust your schedule if needed by using the add/drop form upon approval by your academic advisor. Faculty will post their office hours outside their doors. If, however, you cannot meet with your advisor during these times, please contact him by phone or email to schedule a meeting time. This also applies if you are encountering any problems in your courses. The faculty want to see you succeed and will do everything they can to help.

Social Science Electives

Please go to the Catalog and towards the end you will find the heading – Course Descriptions. Once you are there, please run a keyword search for “(SS)” and also “(HU/SS)” and find a course you like.
