Patrick Engel ('00), Tim McKenney ('00), and Michael Mensch ('00), three senior students, presented their final plant design to the American Chemical Society at Embry Riddle University. The ACS Orlando Section Newsletter (August 2000) stated that "the presentation was interesting and well done". The proposed chemical plant would manufacture a xylene solution of partially hydrolyzed trimethyl aluminum, a substance which is used in the catalytic polymerization of olefins such as ethylene, propylene and styrene.
Ghazi Al-Shareef ('98), Meshack Kelefe ('98), and Ahmed Al-Hawsani ('98) presented their Senior Plant Design Project to an audience of Chemical Engineering professionals, faculty, and students in the April '98 meeting of the East Central Florida Professional Section of the AIChE. The students conducted a technical, economical, environmental and safety study on the design of a petrochemical complex to produce high purity benzene and cyclohexane from natural gasoline feed stock. Their excellent study and presentation earned the Florida Tech AIChE Student Chapter a $250 Scholarship offered by the Professional Section.
Teri Swenson ('99) was one of three Florida Tech students to win the Space Coast Alumni Chapter Scholarship Award for 1998.
Teri Swenson ('99) won one of two scholarships offered annually to Chemical Engineering Students in the State of Florida by the AIChE Section of Central Florida, Lakeland. Teri's award includes a $1,000 cash prize.
